Making challenging decisions, particularly when the stakes are high and uncertainty persists, can be daunting. For military personnel during wartime, sound and timely decisions can be the difference between life and death. Similarly, in business, making the right decisions swiftly can determine success or failure.
Thrive Venture has developed a comprehensive model to assist business owners in making high-value decisions, formulating strategies, and implementing them effectively. We refer to this model as D-GASVAE, which stands for Determine, Gather, Analyze, Strategize, Visualize, Actualize, and Evaluate.
D-GASVAE is a systematic, seven-step process-driven approach that incorporates elements of the Boyd Decision Making Cycle, commonly known as the OODA Loop. However, it also incorporates novel dynamic elements, particularly the power of visualization. Visualization has been demonstrated to be instrumental in building championship teams and launching start-ups that have transformed into billion-dollar corporations. Its effectiveness is undeniable.
D-GASVAE is not merely designed to aid in decision-making; it also assists in developing a strategic plan and executing it, employing the concept of “furtherance” to ensure its success. It promotes flexibility and adaptability over definitiveness.
D-GASVAE is fluid and sustainable by design and can be tailored to any endeavor or problem requiring a solution. It is crucial to recognize that there is often no definitive correct decision; only the most suitable decision when faced with less than optimal circumstances. The seven elements of D-GASVAE will be presented in seven separate posts.
#1 DETERMINE
Determining the root cause of the problem or question at hand is the foundation of this step. The key is to comprehend the rationale behind the decision: whether it involves developing or expanding a product or service, accepting a proposed deal, or hiring your first employee. Understanding the rationale and its potential implications will assist in determining the appropriate level of effort to invest. Identify the questions that need to be answered and determine the pertinent information that must be gathered to make the decision.
